Talking with Your Kids: Communication Builds Safety

One of the most important ways we can keep our children safe is by having open, honest conversations. Something as simple as asking, “Where are you going?” and “What will you be doing?” helps set expectations while letting your child know you care about their safety.

When kids know they can call you if a situation becomes unsafe—like underage drinking at a party or a friend attempting to drive after using substances—they’re more likely to reach out for help instead of taking risks.
