The Montgomery Institute congratulates its founder, Bill Crawford, on his forthcoming book, A Republican’s Lament: Mississippi Needs Good Government Conservatives (The University Press of Mississippi—release date October 15). The book promises insightful reflections on leadership, politics and the values that have guided Crawford’s journey.

Bill has been a visionary leader, dedicating decades to public service, regional development, and community transformation, and has consistently shown his passion for progress, from his role as the president of The Montgomery Institute, a force for innovation in East Mississippi and West Alabama, to serving as Governor Haley Barbour’s designee to the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Delta Regional Authority, and the Mississippi State Port Authority Commission.

His accomplished career includes his help in settling the historic Ayers higher education desegregation lawsuit, leading efforts to preserve Naval Air Station Meridian, and being a driving force behind initiatives that attracted more than $30 million in resources to support our region. He’s also played a pivotal role in shaping the future of workforce development with the WIRED project, impacting 36 counties in Mississippi and Alabama.

Enjoy this one of many reviews the book has received thus far.

“Crawford’s book is a must-read, encapsulating largely ignored conservative principles of governance and documenting the emergence and impact of early Republican candidates in Mississippi. William L. Waller Jr., former chief justice Mississippi Supreme Court.”

Chris Roth, the president of Hancock County Historical Society, has this to say:

A Republican’s Lament: Mississippi Needs Good Government Conservatives is very informative, a primer for civic classes, and a case study for political science students. Hopefully, many others will take a moment to educate themselves on the principles of good government and become engaged.”

Please join us in congratulating The Montgomery Institute Founder, Bill Crawford, on this incredible milestone!
